Introduction to DIY Watercolor Cards
Home made gifts and cards can sometimes get a bad rap, but at the end of the day, isn't it the thought that counts? Taking the time to create anything, takes effort and energy and that can let the people in your life know that they truly are important to you. Thanksgiving is a great time of year to simply create a card and let someone know you are grateful for them. This simple DIY card is simple, yet elegant enough to let your loved ones know that you are truly thankful for them.
Materials Needed
Watercolor paper - Best for high quality watercolor art work
Watercolors Paints - various shades of orange, green and brown
Brushes - Watercolor round brush #6 is my favorite, but various sizes are helpful.
Additional supplies: pencil for sketching, fine black liner or assorted markers.
Painting Pumpkins:
Start by sketching and placing your pumpkins on the page where you would like them to be displayed.
Paint the pumpkins using various oranges and yellows. Use light colors to paint some lines to represent the texture of the pumpkin.
Glaze over your pumpkins with a nice transparent orange color to give it unity
Adding details: Add highlights and shadows
Final Touches
Allowing the artwork to dry: Rushing this process can blur your paint and ruin the natural beauty of watercolor paint.
Adding Greeting : At the top of the card write THANKFUL or something along those lines.
Adding Details: Outline your pumpkins with a fine line marker.
Personalization and Customization
Feel free to add or change anything about the design you wish to make it special for your friends and family. Add more pumpkins, take some away, add a cornucopia, add some fun colors in the background. Make the card reflect who you are! Add a special greeting on the inside and sign your name. Now you card is complete and ready to share with the one you are thankful for!
Conclusion
Homemade gifts and cards take time and energy and reflect how you truly feel about the loved ones in your family. Taking the time to create something for someone shows you care! Start with a simple sketch, then paint your pumpkins, once the paint is dry add your greeting and outline. Sign your card and share with those in your life!
