Introduction

Handmade Valentine's are a fun afternoon craft and make a great gift for your friends, family, and loved ones. This simple Valentine can be made in just a few minutes, and will surely bring a smile to the face of its receiver. This greeting is a throw back to late 90's early 2000's when being the Bomb was a cool thing to be. Let someone know that you think They are the Bomb with this simple and quick Valentine that is so easy, it will be ready to go in minutes!

Materials Needed

- Watercolor paper: I like to use 140lb cold press watercolor paper.

- Watercolors: Any brand of watercolor paints will work. I like to use my Cotman Winsor & Newton pallet. You will need a black, red, and yellow.

- Brushes: I used a size 2 brush since I was painting with a 3"x3" space

- Water and paper towels: You will need clean water and a clean paper towel handy to wet your paints and for cleaning your brush.

- Optional embellishments: Add stickers, glitter or washi tape to make your Valentine one of a kind.

Step-by-Step Guide to Creating the Card

  • Prepare the Workspace.

I like to get my water cups ready, spritz my paints with water to activate them. Grab my paper towel, brushes and my paper.

  • Create a Blueprint for the Design.

It is always best to take a few minutes sketching and practicing your design and writing your greeting before beginning your final project.

  • Prepare your Valentines (optional)

I took a 9x12" piece of water color paper and measured out (12) 3"x3" squares to create multiple small spaces for more valentine designs. I will use these squares to paint in multiple Valentines Ideas I have ( I will post more videos as I get them done!) And then when I am done I will cut them out and have Valentine's to share with others.

  • Sketch your design

Using a circular object, trace a circle to create your Bomb. Draw your bomb string and lightly sketch your Greeting: You are the BOMB

  • Paint

Using black paint, paint in your bomb. be sure to leave a white spot to create a highlight. Using the red paint only, paint thing strips, like small c's along your bomb cord. Paint the part that represents the bomb being lit, yellow.

  • Incorporate the Greeting.

Once your bomb is painted and dry, use a black mark to trace over your greeting. Cut out your card, and on the back write To: and make sure to write From: and sign your very own name!

Personalization Ideas

Make your card one of a kind by adding your own personal touches to your card.

- Use different color for lettering: such as picking someone's favorite color. .

- Incorporating tiny personal elements: Examples like add initials inside the Bomb.

Benefits of Making Your Own Valentine Cards
